Dainty, sweet, and innocent… like some long lost ice-cream flavor of my youth that I only half remember and may have involved peaches.

A good ol’ fashioned goody-two-shoes good girl… the one in all those drippingly sentimental Billy Joel songs who still believes in Prince Charming and is saving herself for marriage.

Do they still exist…? Did they ever…?

Not that I’d know what to do if I met one. I’ve been steeped in a Hollywood culture that’s been dunked in glitter and deep fried in sin. You can’t dry clean those stains out, and I wouldn’t want to risk leaving a smudge on anything so frilly and white.

Plus, she’d probably bore me to tears.

I suppose I’m only asking out of anthropological curiosity, hoping a natural history museum might dedicate an exhibit to them featuring naivete and virginity. And of course, a velvet rope wouldn’t be enough… these days you gotta keep something like that behind glass.

I just want evidence that good girls aren’t yet extinct. Could there be any left in the wild? Come on, they’re easy to spot… they volunteer at hospitals, they blush at foul language, and they aren’t armed with the manipulation skills of the average mafia don.

And I’ve known too many crazy Mormon girls, so the hyper-religious don’t count. Just because you’ve kept your daughters locked up and reciting scripture doesn’t make them good girls. Let ‘em spend a week in Los Angeles without wearing Deuteronomy as a chastity belt, and we’ll see how long it takes before they’re shooting porn in the valley.

No, a honest-to-goodness good girl is good despite being worldly.

And dude, I’m sorry, but your sister doesn’t count either. I’ve met your sister… just trust me on this.

And just to be clear, I’m not talking about a decent woman. A good girl is not the same thing as a decent woman. They both may be faithful and loving, but a decent woman is never dainty, only sweet when it suits her, and far from innocent. A decent woman can always kick a good girl’s ass. If I’m lucky, I’ll wind up with a decent woman one day… but that’s not the point.

I just want some reassurance that a good girl or two is still out there… it’d be a shame if they all vanished.
